5000 Role Models to Celebrate Academic Success at Prestigious Scholarship Signing Day Ceremony on May 31

Date:

MIAMI, FL (Le Floridien) — The 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project will host its Annual Prestigious Scholarship Academic Signing Day on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Lehman Theater, located on the Miami Dade College–North Campus, 11380 NW 27 Avenue, Miami, FL 33167.

This much-anticipated event will honor the academic achievements and resilience of 45 graduating seniors, known as the 2025 Wilson Scholars, who will be formally recognized as they commit to attending some of the nation’s most prestigious colleges and universities. Representing a wide array of high schools across Miami-Dade County, each scholar will be celebrated on stage and presented with their future university’s official cap—a symbolic and inspiring moment akin to national athletic signing days.

In a powerful gesture of support, each Wilson Scholar will also receive a branded laptop, generously provided by the Miami Dolphins’ Football Unites program, a longtime partner of the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project.

Empowering Young Men for a Brighter Future

Founded by Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson, the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project is renowned for transforming the lives of young men, particularly those from underrepresented communities. Through mentorship, academic support, and access to scholarships, the program equips students to navigate obstacles and succeed in higher education.

“I am elated to see another graduating class of determined, driven, and ambitious young men excel and move on to the next chapter of life in pursuit of success,” said Congresswoman Wilson. “Their achievements are not only a testament to their hard work, but to the power of community and mentorship.”

Honoring Community Pillars

This year’s ceremony will also include a community recognition segment, honoring five influential leaders for their unwavering commitment to education and youth empowerment:
Dr. Jose L. Dotres, Superintendent, Miami-Dade County Public Schools
Mr. Steffond Cone, Assistant Superintendent, MDCPS
Mr. Antonio White, President, United Teachers of Dade
Mr. Eric Accime, Entrepreneur
Dr. Karlene Chin, Posthumous Honoree

Their contributions continue to serve as a foundation for the educational and personal success of countless students across South Florida.

Partnering Schools and New Mentors

The event will also feature the induction of new Role Model Mentors, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to long-term youth guidance. Partnering academic institutions this year include Miami Dade College, St. Thomas University, Florida International University, Florida A&M University, Florida State University, Florida Memorial University, and the University of Miami.

With over two decades of impact, the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project continues to set the standard for student mentorship and academic advancement in Miami-Dade County and beyond.
