Taïna Fleury Wins the RFI/AUF Prize for Young Writing

(Le Floridien) — Taïna Fleury, a social communication student at the Faculty of Human Sciences (FASCH) of the State University of Haiti (UEH), has won the RFI/AUF Prize for Young Writing. The jury, chaired by Romanian-Congolese author Annie Lulu, recognized Fleury for her short story “Perejil,” which stood out for its exceptional literary quality. This accolade highlights Fleury’s talent and marks a significant achievement in her burgeoning writing career.

In the 6th edition of the RFI/AUF Prize for Young Writing, participants were tasked with crafting a fiction piece in French, no longer than 8,000 characters, starting with the sentence: “Is it up to me to be an old woman to teach you courage?” This line is from Annie Lulu’s novel “Paine des Faunes,” which won the 2023 Ecology Novel Prize. This year, 222 young authors rose to the challenge, submitting their original stories.

Aimed at encouraging short story writing in French, the competition targets young French-speaking individuals aged 18 to 29 who are enrolled in AUF member institutions or the “École de Management de la Francophonie” (ESFAM).

The Audience Prize was awarded to Baldur Adjaï for his short story “Noir, notre ciel.” His work received 579 votes, distinguishing itself among the 10 finalist entries selected from the 222 submissions. This edition of the competition garnered a total of 1,436 votes.
