(Le Floridien) — The city of Jacmel officially launched last Sunday its carnival season, bringing together vibrant colors, lively music, and enthusiastic participants to kick off the festive celebration.
Officials from the town hall made the announcement of the kickoff through a press release published on January 6. The carnival is scheduled to run from January 7 to February 14, 2024, under the theme ‘PANDAN N’AP DANCE, ANN PLANIFYE YON NOUVEL AYITI.’
The inaugural weekend featured a range of events, including artistic parades, musical performances, and exhibitions showcasing local crafts and the creative talents of the Jacmelian community. The streets resonated with the rhythm of traditional dances, providing an immersive experience for all participants.
Despite criticism from some due to the tense security climate, Jacmel, a town located on the south coast of Haiti known for its many colonial-style buildings, including the 19th-century Maison Cadet, remains determined to keep the spirit of the carnival alive. True to its roots, Jacmel intends to celebrate this festivity until February 14.
