MIRAMAR – The night of Wednesday, September 8, was a historical moment for Angels for Humanity, which is a humanitarian organization dedicated to helping children all over the world, especially in Haiti, which had decided to partner with The Haitian Medical Association Abroad – South Florida Chapter, in order to help Haiti after the country sustained a high intensity earthquake in the 7.0 range, followed by a tropical storm with significant destruction for many cities in the southern region.

The event was held at the office of Dr. Angelo E. Gousse in Miramar during which a ten thousand dollar check was officially presented.

As president of both organizations, Dr. Gousse explained that the event shows how local organizations can partner together for the betterment of the Haitian people. More and more organizations are learning how to work together in order to become more efficient and more powerful.

During a short remark, Dr. Gousse -flanked by four members of the Haitian Medical Association Abroad – South Florida Chapter- thanked the Miami-based organization, which has been focused since its inception in 2006 on a broad range of social issues impacting children.

As the president of Angels for Humanity as well, Dr. Gousse, along with four organization members, including Emmy Award-winning newscaster Calvin Hughes who co-anchors Local 10 News, also thanked the Association of Haitian Physicians – South Florida Chapter for collaborating and accepting this wonderful gift.

According to the speaker, the goal and the vision of this gift is to start a wound care and rehabilitation program in the city of Jérémie.

“This is in the works; we don’t have all the details yet,” said the top-ranked urologist. “This is for a specific type of activity. Angels for Humanity has trusted the doctors in order to be able to lead that project to flourish. It is a tremendous opportunity for both organizations to partner together.”

Dr. Angelo Gousse matched the donation amount

Dr. Gousse also made a surprise announcement that, as the newly elected president of the Association of Haitian Physicians – South Florida Chapter, he has decided to personally match the donation given to the physician association.

As members of both associations applauded his generous donation, Dr. Gousse handed a ten thousand dollar check to the treasurer of the physicians association. He jokingly noted that this was actually a smaller check, but same amount, inducing heartfelt laughter from the audience.

Dr. Gousse added, “The reason we are doing this is we believe in doing good for the country. I think to do those types of activities, it requires funds. Without funds, very little can be done. We do need funds. A lot of people have a lot of good ideas to help, but unfortunately you need financial resources in order to be able to execute. You can plan as much you want, but if you don’t have the financial means, it is extremely difficult if not impossible to execute. We believe that we will be able to execute at least some good with funds that we’re gathering and we will continue to work to accumulate more financial resources together for the benefit of the people of Haiti.”

Dr. Gousse took the opportunity to encourage people to support all the activities of the AMHE and Angels for Humanity by visiting their websites at www.amheflorida.org and www.angelsforhumanity.org.

Raising funds to help people in Haiti (or people struggling in any nation or region) is not easy, even during the best of times. However, among American citizens, including the Haitian diaspora, many of us have enjoyed the blessings freedom brings us, and people like Dr. Gousse remind us all that there’s a significant difference between ideas and action.

Thank you, Dr. Gousse and all the others who have tirelessly given of their time and financial resources to be a blessing among our brethren in Haiti. Let us all make an impact and give when possible. To all those who have sacrificed time and money helping our Haitian homeland, we at Le Floridien say, ‘Thank you.’
