The Haitian community in New Jersey and across the diaspora is mourning the passing of Jocelyne P. Ferdinand, a highly respected nurse and dedicated professional in the medical field whose commitment to caring for others left a lasting impression on the lives of many patients and families. Ferdinand passed away on February 19, 2026, at the age of 72. She was born on August 1, 1953.

Throughout her career, Ferdinand earned the admiration of colleagues and the gratitude of the many individuals she cared for in the New Jersey community. Known for her professionalism, compassion, and strong sense of duty, she was regarded not only as a skilled healthcare professional but also as a caring and attentive presence for those who relied on her care and support.

Her passing has deeply affected family members, friends, and members of the Haitian diaspora who remember her as a woman of faith, generosity, and service. The biblical passage chosen for her memorial, from Psalms 91:9, reads: “I have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, my dwelling place.” The verse reflects the spiritual foundation that guided her life and her commitment to serving others.

Family members and friends gathered on March 8 for a wake and viewing held at the French Speaking Baptist Church of Brooklyn in Brooklyn, New York. The gathering provided an opportunity for loved ones and members of the community to pay their respects and reflect on the life of a woman whose work touched so many.

A homegoing celebration service took place the following morning, March 9, at the Haitian Bethany Baptist Church in Elizabeth, New Jersey. The church was filled with relatives, friends, and many colleagues from the medical sector who came to honor Mrs. Ferdinand’s legacy and the impact she had on her community.

Speakers shared heartfelt memories of her dedication, her kindness, and her unwavering commitment to helping others. The ceremony was both solemn and uplifting, highlighting a life lived with purpose, faith, and compassion. Family members, especially her widower, Dr. Michel-Ange Ferdinand, himself a well-respected physician in New Jersey, expressed their gratitude for the support shown by the community during this difficult time.

Following the service, mourners proceeded in a reverent procession to Rosedale Cemetery in Linden, New Jersey, where Mrs. Ferdinand was laid to rest. A repast held afterward allowed family members, friends, and colleagues to gather, share memories, and celebrate the life of a woman who had given so much to others.
