North Miami Haitian Pastor Elie Dorcius Arrested on Child Sexual Abuse Charges

North Miami pastor Elie Dorcius was arrested on child sexual abuse charges, a case that is sending shockwaves through the Haitian community in South Florida as investigators search for possible additional victims.

NORTH MIAMI (Le Floridien) – Elie Dorcius, a longtime Haitian pastor in North Miami, is now at the center of disturbing child sexual abuse allegations that are sending shockwaves throughout the Haitian community in South Florida.

Dorcius, 62, pastor of Unity Baptist Church located at 13001 NW Seventh Avenue in North Miami, was arrested this week on charges including child rape, molestation, and indecent exposure. According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the alleged victim is now 33 years old but told investigators the abuse began when she was only 5 years old.

Authorities said the assaults allegedly continued throughout parts of her childhood. Investigators also stated that Dorcius declined to speak with detectives about the accusations.

Because of his role as a religious leader within the community, detectives fear there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward. Authorities are now encouraging anyone with information or anyone who believes they may also have been victimized to contact investigators or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers.

On Wednesday, Unity Baptist Church remained closed behind locked gates while Dorcius stayed jailed without bond.

Another Painful Reminder for the Haitian Community

The arrest of Dorcius is also reminding many members of the Haitian community of another disturbing case involving a Haitian pastor in South Florida.

In a previous incident reported by Le Floridien, Elco Vallier, a 50-year-old Haitian pastor associated with Theophile Church of North Miami, was arrested after a 15-year-old girl and her mother accused him of inappropriate sexual behavior involving a minor.

According to investigators, the teenager told authorities Vallier allegedly engaged in inappropriate conduct with her on several occasions and claimed the situation began when she was around 13 years old.

The investigation intensified after the girl’s mother reportedly discovered inappropriate text messages sent by the pastor to her daughter. Authorities later organized a recorded phone call between the suspect and the teenager, during which investigators allegedly heard sexually inappropriate comments.

Vallier was eventually arrested with assistance from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and faced charges related to indecent acts and inappropriate behavior involving a minor.

For many Haitians in South Florida, these repeated allegations involving church leaders are becoming deeply troubling.

Pastors traditionally occupy highly respected positions within the Haitian community. Churches often serve not only as places of worship but also as centers of social support, counseling, immigration assistance, and family guidance.

However, community advocates say some religious leaders may abuse that trust and authority while victims remain silent because of fear, shame, or pressure from family and church members.

Many victims remain silent because they fear they will not be believed, worry about bringing shame and embarrassment to their families, fear losing support from their church community, or risk being accused of attacking religion itself. Others within the Haitian community believe some pastors are treated as untouchable figures whose behavior is rarely questioned publicly.

“These cases are painful because people place enormous trust in pastors,” one Haitian community member said. “When that trust is broken, the entire community suffers.”

The accusations against Dorcius and Vallier remain allegations, and both men are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. Still, these cases are reopening difficult conversations inside the Haitian community about accountability, child protection, and the urgent need for greater transparency within religious institutions.

Authorities continue urging anyone with information related to the Dorcius investigation to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
