BOYTON BEACH, Fla. – A graduation celebration in Boynton Beach that should have been remembered as a moment of achievement and family pride instead ended in violence, leaving one man fighting for his life and another facing an attempted murder charge.
According to the Boynton Beach Police Department, a verbal dispute during a graduation gathering on Northwest 6th Avenue escalated into a brutal stabbing Sunday evening. The victim suffered four stab wounds to the torso and back and remains in critical condition after undergoing emergency surgery.
Police arrested 37-year-old Olguens Michaud and charged him with attempted second-degree murder.
Investigators say a small group had gathered to celebrate a graduation when an argument broke out as attendees began cleaning up after the event. According to witness statements, Michaud became upset after being asked to help clean the yard. Witnesses told police that Michaud responded by saying, “I’m a boss, I don’t need to clean.”
The dispute intensified when the victim reportedly replied, “You are a boss, but you don’t bring anything.”
What followed was a tragic example of how a few words exchanged in anger can have life-altering consequences.
According to police, Michaud left the area but returned moments later and confronted the victim. Witnesses said the victim attempted to protect himself with a plastic chair before being stabbed multiple times.
During questioning, Michaud reportedly told investigators that he felt “disrespected” by the victim’s comments.
Beyond the criminal allegations, the incident also raises concerns about how quickly a verbal disagreement can turn into a serious confrontation when pride and anger take over.
Graduation celebrations are meant to honor hard work, sacrifice, and achievement. For many Haitian families, they are moments of deep pride, often representing years of struggle, sacrifice, and hope for a better future.
